It doesn't have all the "bells & whistles" of MACREX and CINDEX (like generic indexing codes) but works just fine for straight-forward indexes. And at $129 it's a real bargain! Order information is available in most issues of the ASI Newsletter. Before I got In-Sort I was creating a database in Filemaker Pro, exporting the file to Word for the Mac, then editing and formatting for final output. The first index I did on In-Sort (this is a journal that has an index for each issue) took about three hours less than the previous issue; and that includes manually inserting indexing codes. So I recommend it highly. Since then I have brought a number of improvements to both stacks (one for single volumes and the other for multivolumes or periodicals), and dubbed them with the name "HyperIndex 1.0" (one is HyperIndex/VOL and the other HyperIndex/PER); copyright is pending. Both programs run now quite well and to my entire satisfaction. All Macintosh users can use it with the HyperCard Program that comes bundled with their machines. Extensive knowledge of HyperCard is not required. To get more detailed information, please read my 20 August message or call me at 317-274-2173 (Peirce Edition Project). HyperIndex is available for a small fee of 15 dollars. In return you get: both HyperIndex/VOL and HyperIndex/PER in two versions (short and long) and two sizes (small and 12"), plus a 20-page manual (on diskette) and a few sample pages. I like its ease of use, but I'm hitting the point with larger indexes where I could really use some of those bells and whistles. It lacks a true page number sort, although a utility is supposed to come for that from the developer. What I miss most is that, and the verification of cross-references, and some stronger search and replace features for changing page numbers. I also miss being able to import files created in other applications, such as a spreadsheet. I don't want to have to buy a PC to be able to do these thing, but it is starting to look as though I may have to, especially for large indexes.doesdoesn't have a true page number sort, or allow you to format characters the way most Mac apps do. I have to do searching and replacing in Word to get italics or small caps into files. It also has a proprietary file structure that doesn't seem to allow importing of other ascii files, such as those created in Excel or Word, something I would really like to do. It doesn't verify cross references, and doesn't have formulas for page number changing. It does show you your formatted index, which is really nice, and I would hate to lose that. It has multiple windows open, so you can work with recent entries, entries in alphabetical order without needing to do more than click.I think the developer wants to get the page number sort and conversion utilities done and included, so some of the bigger gaps in it will disappear. =========================================================================
