CAROLINA PUBLISHING INSTITUTE to be held in JUNE 1996 The fourth Carolina Publishing Institute will be held at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from June 3 - 28. The curricula covers the principles of book publishing -- editing, design and production, and marketing -- with an additional week this year on electronic publishing. Participants may choose to take part in selected weeks or to enroll in the entire Institute. Professionals from every area of publishing serve as faculty. The Board Chair is Shannon Ravenel, editorial director of Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill. Among the highlights are interactive sessions, field trips, resume evaluations, and discussions of a variety of publishing methods. The program is useful to people considering a career in publishing, people who already work in the industry, authors who would like to understand more about the industry, and people who love books and want to learn more about how they come into being. The electronic publishing week, new this year, will be particularly geared but not limited to people already working in publishing who would like to learn how to use electronic publishing to their best advantage. The faculty director for this week is Paul Jones, currently technical director, Institute for Advanced Technology in the Humanities at the University of Virginia at Charlottesville. The poster was looking for a reference book that gives US/British equivalents for technical terms. Some examples given are wrench/spanner, trunk/boot, etc. Does anyone on this list know of such a reference? If so, I'll post it to techwr-l. Thanks. Just a quick introduction, since I've been a lurker on the list for a while but have never posted. I'm a technical writer and beginning indexer in Tampa, Florida. I index our software manuals and online help (which I also help write). I've never received any training in indexing, but I've just completed my first lesson in the USDA course.
