Since I didn't have lots of time or $$$, I've been looking for "reasonable" data sources. For around $60.00 I was able to get a data file listing of all publicly held U.S. companies, i.e., those listed on the U.S. stock exchanges. The data files contain SIC codes so I can pull out the companies by type. This data file is called The Executive Desk Register of Publicly Held Corporations. It is available from: Demand Research Corp. 625 North Michigan Ave. Chicago, IL 60611 (312) 664-6500 DRC has other data files available as well. -nancy nmulvany@well.sf.ca.us ========================================================================= Date: Fri, 30 Oct 1992 08:58:12 ECT Reply-To: Indexer's Discussion Group Sender: Indexer's Discussion Group From: "Nancy C. This is standard practice in American book publishing. The only variation I have ever seen is in regard to the sorting of prepositions when they are the first term in a subentry. Keep in mind that I am referring only to practices in the book publishing industry -- not the list publishing industry, or database industry or even library cataloging and ALA filing rules! -nancy nmulvany@well.sf.ca
